Minnesota Love, Minimalist Design, Minimal Impact. One of the core tenants at MNIMALIST is to ensure we are doing everything we can to minimize our impact on the environment- from using 100% recycled shirts and sweatshirts to continually looking for ways to improve how we ship our line of Minnesota hats, shirts and sweatshirts to our customers with less waste and pollution. Thankfully, this concept has grown in popularity in recent years and many manufacturers are focusing their efforts on more sustainable materials and processes.
The movement of Sustainable Fashion (or eco fashion) seeks to foster change towards ecological awareness and responsibility, as well as labor rights and social justice. We must view all stakeholders when working towards more sustainable fashion: the consumer, manufacturers, affected plants and animals, and future generations of humans. Everyone plays a role in this system- our purchasing decisions as consumers can pressure manufacturers to do the right things and reward those companies that are making efforts towards sustainability. When you purchase an item from MNIMALIST, you are helping to promote change by raising awareness around sustainable fashion, and supporting Minnesota environmental charities as a percent of all proceeds is donated to a charity you choose.
Sustainable fashion also looks to improve labor conditions for workers around the world. At MNIMALIST, we aim to work only with credible vendors who use sustainable practices and fair labor principles. Our main shirt and sweatshirt vendor works with partners in the US, Haiti and Guatemala, including a work co-op in Haiti that creates sustainable jobs and living wages for hundreds of workers as well as a facility in Guatemala powered by biomass from local forestry and coffee industry waste. The yarn used is created from post-consumer plastic bottles, so the process starts with sustainability in mind and follows through all the way through the supply chain.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve our impact on the environment, and help support causes that protect Minnesota's natural resources. We are proud to contribute portions of sales to organizations like Save the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Friends of the Headwaters, Clean Water Fund MN, Friends of Itasca State Park, Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness, Friends of the Mississippi River, Women's Environmental Institute and more.
Follow us on social media for more updates around issues these organizations are fighting for, and for ways to help. Thank you for supporting MNimalism and sustainable fashion in your community.
